R. Douglas Williamson

Doug is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Beacon Group. He is also author of the book Straight Talk on Leadership – Solving Canada’s Business Crisis and regularly speaks, writes, coaches and teaches on the importance of Leadership, Strategy and Talent Management.

Throughout his more than 30 year international business career, Doug has been instrumental in improving the overall performance and effectiveness of countless senior executives, their leadership teams and their organizations, helping them develop high performance strategies, leaders and cultures.

He has lived and worked in Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, and has also served clients in Europe, the Nordic countries, Mexico, Australia and the Middle East. Prior to establishing The Beacon Group, Doug held several senior executive level positions with The Royal Bank of Canada. In addition to his experience in the private sector, Doug served in senior executive level positions within the Canadian Government. He served as a Special Advisor in the Office of the Prime Minister, and was a member of the Government’s Commission on Economic Prosperity and one of the principal authors of their report – Financing the New Economy.

Michael Gook

Mike is Senior Vice-President & COO of The Beacon Group.

With more than 30 years of business experience, Mike has provided clients with expert leadership and strategic management in the areas of information technology and corporate administration. A graduate of the University of Guelph, he has acted in various senior executive positions, including Director of Information Technology and Director of Administration for large corporations within North America.

Mike is responsible for lending leadership and oversight to the day-to-day organizational operations of the business, as well as, contributing to the on-going strategy formulation and implementation.

Linda McKend

Linda is Senior Vice-President & Chief Financial Officer of The Beacon Group.

She is a graduate of both Waterloo University and of Queen’s University, where she obtained her MBA.

Linda is responsible for all aspects of our financial relationship with clients. In addition, she contributes to the day-to-day management of the business and to the development of strategy.

Cathy Brown

Vice-President of Relationship Management

Cathy is the Vice-President – Relationship Management for The Beacon Group. She contributes broadly to many aspects of our business. Cathy’s role in building and maintaining relationships with our clients is accomplished through the provision of key services provided by The Beacon Group. She plays an integral role in the design and delivery of Leadership Development Workshops. Cathy holds a B. Sc. in Occupational Therapy from the University of Western Ontario.

Shannon Williamson

Vice President of Organizational Assessment Solutions

Shannon is the Vice-President – Organizational Assessment Solutions for The Beacon Group.

Shannon’s responsibilities include overseeing the direct delivery of products and services within The Beacon Group’s assessment division, including advising on survey methodologies, design and implementation, as well as providing customized reporting of survey results to clients. Shannon has contributed to multiple white papers that have been featured in industry publications.

Shannon’s 15 years of experience in survey development and administration have allowed The Beacon Group to expand their assessment business from employee opinion surveys and 360 feedback, to a broad range of customizable survey offerings. Beacon Group surveys can be used to identify and assess succession planning candidates, analyze individual and team effectiveness, measure cultural health, and more.

Shannon holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Women’s Studies from the University of Toronto.

Walt Bordian

Walt Bordian is a results oriented business leader with over 30 years of extensive experience in all competencies of Human Resources management in the manufacturing, service and consumer goods industries. His career began in the manufacturing industry in labour relations and safety, successfully negotiating numerous collective bargaining agreements with many union groups and establishing his reputation as a progressive relationship builder. He then progressed into senior leadership roles overseeing organizations such as Bombardier Aerospace, CAMI Automotive, Laidlaw Transportation and Sleeman Breweries. More recently, Walt has been supporting organizations as an executive consultant advising clients on tactical and strategic human resources and business challenges. His passion is in driving organizational change to achieve desired business results. Walt holds an MBA from City University, Seattle, Washington and an BA from the University of Windsor.

Michael Darmody

Michael Darmody is a seasoned leadership and management consultant, executive coach and public speaker whose vision is to elevate society by driving leadership development within organizations. He is a catalyst for performance improvement by raising employee awareness, growth, hope and inspiration.

In his work with organizations of all types and sizes, Michael teaches how to bridge performance gaps, by concentrating on Purpose (clarifying mission, vision and values), People (growth in self-awareness and proven leadership behaviours), and Process (teambuilding, aligning systems and strategy, leveraging culture).

Michael’s perspective on leadership and performance is derived from 30 years of corporate management experience in both private and non-profit sectors, in the areas of leadership development, strategy consulting and executive coaching.

Michael has a Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) from Ryerson University in Toronto, an MBA from Concordia University in Montreal, and an executive coaching certificate from The Executive Coaching Institute in Boston.

He has the ability and flexibility to move from strategic to operational viewpoints easily, without losing sight of the prize. Michael has been involved in transformative business situations in Canada, The United States and The United Kingdom.

Michael has been involved with many organizations that have included PWC Karabus Retail Consultants, NRDC, Wholesale Sports Stores, Bata Shoe Organization, Hudson’s Bay Company, Marks & Spencer and Tip Top Tailors.

Powin Low

Powin is the Director of Information Technology for The Beacon Group.

Powin oversees the company’s data systems, which include a robust Customer Relationship Management system (CRM), as well as an extensive library of professional services materials.

He is also charged with managing the co-ordination and execution of the company’s e-marketing efforts.

Paula Gomes

Director of Business Development and Social Media

Paula is the Director of Business Development and Social Media for The Beacon Group.

An alumna of the University of Guelph-Humber, Paula holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Guelph and a Business Diploma from Humber College ITAL. She has over 6 years of marketing and business development experience at large organizations in various industries. Paula has worked for the University of Guelph-Humber, FedEx Canada, Petro-Canada, McMaster University and Medcan Clinic.

She reports to the CEO and assists in developing a portfolio of client relationships.
