He's not a car guy..

These are the words of University of Marylan Professor Peter Morici, in an aritcle published in today's Globe and Mail of Chrysler's announcement that Bob Nardelli would be their new CEO.

But, these mirrored "He's not a retail guy" or "He's not a Tool guy" when Nardelli took over as CEO of Home Depot.

We tell our Leadership Development participants over and over, it's your Leadership skills that matter when you move up within an organization, not your technical skills.

Don't belive me.. ask Bob.

Will be interestng to see how Bob moves the company. The Auto Industry, more than any other I believe, suffers from this "you have to be born in the industry to work in it" mentality. Even today, even within our own ranks we suffer from the same mentality - even as it relates to corporate/field force issues. This could stand as a testament to what is possible given the chance.
