Wake Up Call

Don't let this happen to you...

From The Globe and Mail:

We often give workshops on Change Management..

We often talk that the end is nigh if your organization believes that what got you here will get you where you're going....

We often wonder why some companies never get it...

We like to see urgency...

Something is going to happen...

Hear that?? It's that sucking sound again..

Hear that...

Yes, it's that huge sucking sound... you can feel the changes happening...

I am so happy when things change..

why? Simple.. it causes everyone to think.

ManiaTV. Yes, broadcasting live, 24 hours a day, on ... the internet. For Free.

I know.. you're remembering the last time this sort of thing happened... how brilliant, grainy low resolution CNN on dial up internet.. yes, I too was underwhelmed..

But, those times are all gone.. broadband is here.. and with it is ..TV??

ManiaTV is an internet all-music channel, and a front runner to own the initial shock of internet television. Videos, interviews, and all the other filler you'd expect from MTV or Much Music.

Will it be free forever? Probably not..

Will it get better, and grow into a variety of ...er.. channels? ...channURLs? Most likely...

Is it the channel for everyone? Not unless you're 18-25.. and into MTV style music.. But, on TV, there are hundreds of channels...

Is it finally going to challenge the traditional television networks... you bet.

Time to start thinking.. free ride is over.

Hmm.. all of a sudden I am now considering the redundancy of a cable bill.. and an internet bill....

I want my

Curing Ergophobia

I'm always amazed..

(By the way.. you REALLY should do this...)

We often conduct team meetings. Not Team Building.. more team breaking. Don't get me wrong. This is not about breaking teams apart, it is about breaking down the years of 'superficial congeniality'.

I know.. it sounds like a softie moment for me.. but it isn't. These sessions are about Absolute Honesty and Confronting Reality. Often these sessions are brutal, emotional, and draining. But they work, and every time I hear that they do... I'm proud that we're able to help.

"Drive out fear" - W. Edwards Demming

Man, man, man.. I walk into too many companies, and see, no SMELL the fear everywhere.

You (yes you all) are smart people. Say what you need to say. Do what you need to do. Change what you need to change.

How fun is it going to work every day, and being afraid.. even a little bit?

So, go ahead, call the team together and have a good open conversation.. get the Moose on the Table... then get back to work..

Pb-ership

I know.. you'll argue splitting hairs, or semantics... but have you checked if your organization has Leadership, or Leadership?

Well, lets try this...

1 - Lead

now try this..

2 - Lead

See where I'm going.. be sure that your organization has the correct version.

This may be the biggest breakthrough in organizational behaviour.

Leadership, may not always be Leadership..

Don't even get me started on Management...

Own it today.. on Disney DVD..

Or, own it never on ABC DVD...

Wow, what an example of organizational silos, breakdowns in communication, and poor customer service... yikes...

Last week I ordered a DVD of an episode of ABC's Nightline for an upcoming Leadership Development workshop on creativity and innovation. As I was in the process of developing the workshop, I needed the video clip to ensure that the material flowed with what I already had.. I chose priority shipping...

One week later.. still no disk.. so I call ABC.. it turns out that ABC has only one, yes one, guy making copies of all of the episodes which are for sale.. and it turns out he's busy this past week.. hence no DVD...

So I ask myself.. why is it that ABC, owned by Disney (you know the DVD powerhouse...) can't figure out a more efficient way to get copies of DVD's to it's customers.. why not outsource to the parent company.. faster, and certainly cheaper...???

So, I will continue to wait.. strangely enough.. the segment I'm planning on using for the workshop is on IDEO.. the design firm.. you'd think they'd have an idea or two on how to improve this...
